What the code computes.

Outputs of cad-agent's tools with the numbers they computed: on Gyropup, on a printed enclosure, on this repo's test fixtures and on worked examples. Each tile says which, and opens the page that explains it.

  • cadagent.simulation.fea

Stress in a printed leg link

Gyropup's wheel link in a turn, 52,134 quadratic tetrahedra, PA6-CF along the layers (humid). Safety factor 3.15 against a target of 2.0.

    On Gyropup · MIT

Von Mises stress in Gyropup's wheel link, highest beside the axle bore, with a colour bar from 0 to 15 MPa
  • cad-agent holes

A rib that refills a counterbore

Two build orders of the same part. A rib added after the holes were cut fills both; the hole check finds it.

On a test fixture, drawn in 2D; tests hold its numbers to the real check

Section through a screw hole in two build orders; a rib unioned after the hole and counterbore were cut refills both
  • cadagent.mechanical.connectors

A port window sized from the mating plug

An RJ45 plug pushed in. Through a window sized from the jack's box its latch hits the wall; through one derived from the plug it clears by 0.5 mm.

On a test fixture in this repo

An RJ45 plug pushed along its mating axis through two panel windows; only the window derived from the plug clears the latch
  • cad-agent snapfit

    One part, no screws

A cantilever snap fit animated from its own geometry: contact and root strain computed against the material and the print's layer direction.

Drawn by this site's build from the snap-fit geometry

  • cadagent.simulation.topopt

    Topology optimisation

An enclosure floor with its mounting posts under load. Only the material that carries load is kept.

    On a printed enclosure

Topology optimisation of an enclosure floor, with the remaining load paths between the mounting posts
  • cad-agent gates

When a moving arm first hits the frame

A seeded fault, the test bench's arm range raised to 60 degrees. Swept in 12 poses, then bisected, contact starts between 44.89 and 44.91 degrees.

On a test fixture, drawn in 2D; tests hold its numbers to the real check

A seeded fault, an arm swept from 0 to 60 degrees; it first shares volume with the frame beam between 44.89 and 44.91 degrees
  • cadagent.publish.render

A render straight from the CAD

Gyropup's five-bar leg standing, 300 mm from hip to axle, on two RS-04 actuators.

    On Gyropup · MIT

Render of Gyropup's five-bar leg with two actuators and the wheel, standing
  • cadagent.simulation.fea

    A ribbed lid under a 300 N press

Stress as a fraction of the material's strength, so the colour reads as margin, not megapascals.

    On a printed enclosure

FEA of a ribbed enclosure lid under a 300 N press, coloured by stress over strength
  • cad-agent gates

A module that slides in as one piece

A carrier and its board checked on their own bench, then inserted into the parent as one rigid body and withdrawn again.

On a test fixture in this repo

A preassembled module inserted into its parent as one rigid body, then withdrawn
  • cad-agent optimise

Searching designs by cost and mass

Sixty seeded trials as they arrive. Four are feasible, and trials 1 and 47 form the Pareto front.

    On a worked example

Sixty seeded random design trials plotted by cost and mass as they arrive, with the Pareto front marked
  • cad-agent snapfit

A snap fit computed from the guide

The Covestro guide's Example I, recomputed and drawn to scale. Root strain 2.00 percent, as the guide gives.

    On a worked example

A tapered polycarbonate cantilever hook drawn to scale with its deflection, root strain 2.00 percent
  • tools/process_profile_figures.py

    One rule, many sources

The same sheet-metal rule from different sources, evaluated at 1.5 mm, beside one shop's real tooling.

    On published sources

The same sheet-metal rule from several sources evaluated at 1.5 mm thickness and radius

Where cad-agent fits.

Other people's tools make the model. text-to-cad, which we are trialling, writes and exports models, but its code computes no stress, fatigue or safety factor. cad-agent's engineering is Python with 1,390 test functions in CI. Each block shows how far it has got.

Check, simulate, explain, measure: cad-agent

Maturity: idea named here so work has a place to land; nothing built yet; surveyed open-source tools and published sources found and compared; adopt-vs-build recorded; tooling deterministic tools or checks with tests, and a page that states their limits; validated several independent sources agree, confidence recorded, standard jobs pass; proven used on a real project, with a measured physical result. From docs/areas.yaml.

Built with cad-agent.

Real projects are the test bench: every tool here was needed by one of them first.

  • Gyropup, a wheel-legged robot with a turret, renderedGyropup

A wheel-legged foam-ball battle robot, designed, simulated and documented by agents with this toolkit. MIT.

  • The J501 enclosure in the kit's 3D viewer, with its parts listJ501 AGX Orin enclosure

A printed enclosure and cooler for a Jetson AGX Orin carrier, where most of the lessons came from.
